Kencana’ means gold and its figurative meanings are a thing that is of high quality, noble, valuable and worthy. MBIM/MABBIM is a unique, credible and important language council for all Malay/Indonesian language speakers.
The individuals who sparked the idea of setting up this council should be commemorated and given the highest honour by the three MABBIM member countries because through this language council, the once homogeneous language can be built upon and developed as the language of knowledge in the region.
In conjunction with the 25th anniversary of MABBIM, the MABBIM Kencana Award was announced at its 37th session in Terengganu, Malaysia to honour the individuals (from the three member countries) who have contributed immensely to the development of the Malay/Indonesian language.
