The DBP Choir was formed in 1979 with 15 members. It was previously under the guidance of high calibre instructors such as Ratu Bagus Sanoesi, the late Haji Abdul Hamid Baharuddin and Haji Mahzan Manan. Under their guidance, the choir performed at various events locally and abroad including Malam Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa, DBP anniversary celebrations, National Language and Literature Month, Love Our Language Movement, book launches and opening of seminars, celebration of national fighters against the Malayan Union, Red Rose Night organised by UMNO Women’s Movement, Pan-Malaysian Artists’ Day and National Poetry Night. Following its increasing successes, the group members slowly increased to its current 45.
The group’s achievements are focused not only on performance. It is also active in organising activities such as the Voice Harmonisation Workshop and Vocal Training Workshop conducted by professional instructors. Members of this group are equipped with music knowledge such as theory, vocal technique and lyric-writing skills. As a result, the group is able to perform various types of songs, including traditional and patriotic songs.

In addition, the group organises tour programmes to attend choir performances and to collaborate with other choir groups at the state and national levels. These activities have been successfully executed.
Taking a leaf from the book of national heroes who were willing to risk their lives to bring honour to the country, such as Dato' Azhar Mansor who sailed solo around the world, mountain climbers who conquered the world's highest peak, and the historic trek across the North Pole (to name a few examples), the DBP Choir too intends to strive to uphold the national culture. It has taken the step of recording under the DBP Corporate Cassette Publication Project, whereby a total of 12 tracks were included in the cassette based on themes of support for the use of the Malay language and love for the country.
After 25 years, the group now has 25 DBP employees as members. Efforts are being made to attract more DBP staff to join the group, particularly the new generation. DBP has also appointed Dato' Ibrahim Bachek who has vast experience in the music industry to lead the group. It is hoped that through all these efforts the DBP Choir Group will continue to grow stronger to achieve excellence and glory and to ensure that the shared goals become a reality. The group is headed by Mr Razid Sahran.
