DIRECTORY OF WRITERS FROM THE NORTHERN REGION 
In early 2007, the Publishing Unit of the DBP Northern Region conducted an exercise to collect the personal information of authors from the northern region and compiled it in the Directory of Writers from the Northern Region.
As a selection criterion for writers to be listed in this directory, they must have no fewer than 10 works in Malay of a variety of genres which have been published in magazines, newspapers, books, anthologies or other publications.
In addition, writers who have produced at least one book in Malay (in any field) which has been published will also be eligible to be listed in this directory. Scriptwriters of stage plays, radio, television and films as well as translators who have published or broadcast at least 10 works are also eligible to be listed in this directory.
The DBP Northern Region hopes that writers born in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, north Sumatra and southern Thailand who meet the above criteria will contact the secretariat to provide the required information. The directory form can be obtained from the DBP website (www.dbp.gov.my) or at the DBP Northern Region office. Alternatively, instead of filling in the form they may submit their complete personal details to the secretariat together with a passport-size photograph.
The DBP Northern Region hopes that the publication of this directory can be achieved through the co-operation of all writers so that the personal information of authors in the northern region is documented for the knowledge of future generations. In addition, this project aims to strengthen relations among writers, particularly those in the northern region.
